Ambassador Elite Folio Verdict
"Firsthand trial of the remodeled High-Floor King at Westin LAX: unmistakable Heavenly Bed comfort and lobby library hydration station offset by restrictive weekend club hours compared to the LAX Marriott."
Executive Summary & Field Verdict
Staying at The Westin Los Angeles Airport for 1 night before flying back to JFK in the morning. I usually stay at the LAX Marriott, but given other reviews and the recent remodel, I thought I’d give the Westin a try.
I received the room I booked, a High Floor King. The room remodel is nice, modern Westin which in this case with a standard room, is very much like a modern Marriott except with different toned wood and different furniture.
Although the bed—that signature Westin bed and bedding—is unmistakable.
Remodeled High Floor King guest room featuring contemporary wood paneling, ergonomic armchair, and signature Heavenly Bed.

Room Remodel & The Heavenly Bed Experience
The newly renovated guest rooms reflect the updated Westin design standard: clean lines, lighter natural wood veneers, and neutral textiles.
Crisp white linens, supportive pillowtop construction, and integrated bedside reading fixtures.
While the room footprint in a standard king is very similar to modern Marriott builds along Century Boulevard, the Westin Heavenly Bed continues to deliver exceptional spinal support and temperature regulation. The acoustic insulation also proved solid against Century Boulevard airport traffic.
Refreshed bathroom featuring backlit vanity mirror and white subway tile walk-in shower.
The Club Lounge Comparison: Westin vs. LAX Marriott
Staying on a Friday night, there is no evening food service in the club, which is not unlike the LAX Marriott.
However, the major difference is operational access:
- Westin LAX: The Club closes at 11:00 AM on weekends. There is no access for elite members outside of breakfast hours on Saturday and Sunday, and the lounge does not offer 24-hour keycard access on other days either.
- LAX Marriott M Club: Provides continuous 24-hour access for snacks, premium coffee, hydration, and workspace on the 18th floor with airfield views.
For an elite business traveler or anyone with afternoon work or late transit schedules, the restricted hours at the Westin are a notable disadvantage.
High-ceilinged central atrium and lobby common areas.
The Lobby Library Hydration Station
One standout positive amenity: the Library in the lobby, situated directly next to the check-in desk, features a great water refill station.
Lobby Library workspace with communal desks and curated bookshelves.
The station is equipped with dedicated spigots for:
- Flat filtered water
- Sparkling water
- Alkaline water
Having alkaline and sparkling options on tap for pre-flight bottle refills is a genuinely thoughtful touch that frequent flyers appreciate.
The Return Stay Two Weeks Later: Weekend Breakfast Friction
Two weeks later in mid-September, I was back in California for work and decided to give the Westin LAX another try. My wife Maureen joined me on this trip.
We had a good dinner in the restaurant—meatloaf for me, chicken piccata for her. We had planned on a light breakfast in the Club Lounge before heading to LAX for our transcontinental flight back east, and planned our morning accordingly.
To my surprise, when we went down to the Club Lounge on Saturday morning, we discovered it was no longer open for breakfast on weekends.
This was not the case two weeks prior and was opposite of what I was explicitly told by the front desk agent at check-in, who told me the Club was closed on Friday night but would be open for breakfast in the morning.
This threw a small wrench into our morning plans, as a sit-down breakfast at the hotel restaurant would have taken too long before our departure flight. Yes, we have Delta Sky Club access at LAX and could grab breakfast past security—but that’s not the point. We would have planned the morning of our long travel day differently.
The line at the front desk was too long to address this at checkout, but I chatted with the hotel via the Bonvoy app while on the airport shuttle ride. Turns out this policy change eliminating weekend breakfast had started that very day. When I communicated that it wasn’t disclosed at check-in and the website still advertised breakfast daily, the chat agent incorrectly claimed the website stated the weekend closure, when it did not.
Conclusion
My travel patterns have me flying out of LAX on many Saturday mornings. While the room remodel and Heavenly Bed are high quality, the unpredictable lounge schedule and early weekend lockouts push me right back to the LAX Marriott for future airport stays.
