This weekend we drove from San Francisco to Los Angeles along the Pacific Coast Highway, staying in Pismo Beach on Saturday night.
After checking out of The St. Regis San Francisco and driving south through Monterey, Carmel, and the sheer cliffside sunset of Big Sur along Highway 1, we rolled into Pismo Beach right on schedule. I knew we weren’t splitting the drive equally, but the deal and the room at the Vespera Resort on Pismo Beach, Autograph Collection was too good to pass up.

Because Vespera operates as an official resort property under Marriott Bonvoy rules, guaranteed 4:00 PM late checkout is exempt. Knowing that, Maureen and I made sure to rise early Sunday morning to take full advantage of the resort grounds, the wide sandy beachfront, the wooden boardwalk, and the historic Pismo Beach Pier before continuing our coastal drive south toward Los Angeles.
