I recently returned to the Avenue of the Arts Costa Mesa, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel for a one-night stay. Having thoroughly enjoyed a previous visit a few months ago, I was once again impressed by the hotel’s old-school Hollywood vibe and distinctive swagger—an unexpected but delightful touch outside of Hollywood itself.
The hotel is ideally located in Costa Mesa, situated on a large city superblock that features an interior lake, mature green spaces, and walking paths, bordered by residential complexes and the Costa Mesa Marriott. It sits directly across the street from major Orange County cultural landmarks including the Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA), Segerstrom Concert Hall, Samueli Theater, and the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, making it a prime base for anyone attending arts, theater, and entertainment performances in the area.
The One-Bedroom Lakeside Suite Upgrade
I booked a standard king room at the AAA rate and was pleasantly upgraded at check-in to a spacious one-bedroom suite overlooking the tranquil pond and walking paths.
The suite layout is thoughtfully partitioned:
- Generous Living Area: Features a comfortable sofa, executive table, full dresser, and wall-mounted flatscreen TV.
- Dressing & Transition Corridor: Between the living room and master bedroom is a well-designed transitional space that includes a dry bar, a keyed minibar, a brilliantly lit mirrored vanity station, a large walk-in wardrobe closet, and the full bathroom.
- The King Bedroom: Remains my favorite feature of this hotel. It is generously sized with its own dresser, second TV, and a charming private balcony. What truly stands out is the luxurious king bed and bedding—it delivers deep, restorative sleep every single time I stay here.
On-Site Dining: Silver Trumpet Restaurant & Vibrant Holiday Atmosphere
During my stay, I dined on property for both dinner and breakfast:
- Holiday Evening Dinner & Bar: The hotel was bustling that evening with festive holiday parties and live music in the lounge, creating an energetic, sophisticated ambiance. For dinner, I ordered the split chicken—tender, very flavorful, and cooked to perfection.
- Elite Breakfast: Morning breakfast featured a complimentary classic spread of eggs, breakfast potatoes, crisp bacon, toast, and hot tea—simple, satisfying, and efficiently presented before heading out for client work.
Location, Logistics & Work Convenience
Overall, I find the Avenue of the Arts to be a consistently top-tier choice when working on infrastructure projects across Newport Beach and Irvine. It is centrally located with seamless access to the 405 and 55 freeways, while offering an oasis-like quiet environment thanks to the interior lake and walking circuit behind the property.
Between its Hollywood-inspired aesthetic, exceptional bed comfort, and reliable dining, it remains one of my favorite Tribute Portfolio properties in Southern California. I look forward to returning.
