This August 2026 visit marked our 6th lifetime stay at the property—following previous visits in February 2020, February 2021, March 2021, December 2022, and June 2024. More importantly, we checked in right as the property was reopening its doors post-comprehensive property-wide renovation.

Having known every square foot of the pre-renovation footprint, this stay provided an exceptional, unfiltered baseline comparison. The hotel has transitioned from its original, vintage Art Deco hotel persona into a sleek, contemporary “South Beach chic” aesthetic. While some of the eccentric, old-world historical quirks were smoothed out in favor of clean lines and modern luxury finishes, the designers made one crucial, brilliant decision: they preserved the iconic historic terrazzo floor with its inlaid Compass Rose star and the beloved Compass Rose lobby bar.

This was also our very first stay booked into a direct Oceanfront King Room with Balcony (Room 1247) on the 12th floor. The result was an unobstructed, cinematic panorama spanning from the resort’s twin pools and palm canopies all the way across the turquoise Atlantic horizon.

The immediate visual impact upon entry is the sheer light flooding through the sliding glass balcony doors. The direct east-facing vantage point delivers one of the most commanding ocean vistas in South Beach:

From the private 12th-floor balcony, you look directly down over the resort’s dual swimming pools, manicured palm trees, private daybeds, the Miami Beach beach walk, and out onto the open ocean where cruise ships and catamarans navigate the coast.

Sleep Comfort, Bedding & Bathroom Renovation

The sleep experience in Room 1247 is distinctly luxurious. The mattress, pillows, and high-thread-count crisp white linens delivered flawless spinal support and comfort throughout the 6-night stay.

The bathroom underwent a complete modernization:

• Floating Dual-Drawer Vanity: Polished white marble counter, contemporary chrome Kohler fixtures, and a recessed lower open shelf outfitted with warm amber LED night lighting.
• Plush Waffle Towels: Heavyweight, ultra-soft white waffle-weave bath sheets and hand towels displayed in the illuminated vanity niche.

Road Warrior Field Hacks & Ergonomic Teardown

As seasoned road warriors spending 100+ paid nights every year in hotels across the country, we evaluate room layout from both an aesthetic and functional engineering perspective. During our stay, we encountered two post-renovation hardware oversights and deployed our field kit to resolve both instantly.

1. The HVAC Direct Airflow Defect & Snack-Box Field Solution

The primary engineering flaw in Room 1247’s layout is the location and directional angling of the ceiling HVAC supply register:

• The Problem: The supply vent is cut into the drywall soffit directly above the work desk and mini-fridge cabinet. The renovated desk features attractive reeded rattan paneling and a rounded stone surface, but lacks integrated desktop AC outlets or USB-C ports:

• The Solution: Rather than stretching cables across the open walkway, we gently pulled the adjacent white mini-fridge cabinet unit forward several inches from the wall, granting clean access to the recessed duplex wall outlet behind it. Soaring beyond the lobby is the newly unveiled two-story mezzanine atrium. Outfitted with aggregate terrazzo tiles, fluted architectural columns with brushed brass plinths, and cascading sculptural white pendant lighting, it creates an airy, elegant arrival experience.

The renovation brought a total overhaul to the food and beverage program, replacing the former Florida Cookery with distinct contemporary venues.

1. Mixed Company (Lobby Bar & Restaurant)

Anchoring the main floor at 1545 Collins Ave, Mixed Company functions as the social heartbeat of the property. The aesthetic is warm and inviting, complete with custom cognac saddle-leather coasters stamped with the playful motto: “How come we haven’t met before?”.

Firsthand Bar & Dining Folio Audit (August 18, 2026)

We audited an evening dinner session at the Mixed Company bar:
