Ambassador Elite Folio Verdict
"A brand new, smartly designed airport extended-stay property that delivered an effortless 12:30 AM walk-in rescue after severe flight delays, complete with Ambassador Elite recognition, swift shuttle pickup, and solid runway-view corner accommodations."
Executive Summary & Field Verdict
Had an unexpected stay last night at the Residence Inn by Marriott New York JFK Airport. Due to tarmac, gate and baggage delays — we arrived too late at the JFK car rental center to pickup our rental. An Uber ride was over $500 home, and I needed the rental car — so it meant looking for a hotel at 12:30 AM and picking up the rental in the morning.
We were able to get a room at the brand new Residence Inn, that’s on the same block at the JFK Courtyard. The Residence Inn shares the property with a new Marriott that will be open by the Spring.
Exterior entrance and modern multi-story facade of the Residence Inn New York JFK Airport in Queens.
I spoke with the hospitality manager, that will be managing both properties, this morning. He was very excited to tell me about the top floor M Club Lounge that will have views of the runway. I told him that I hoped it would rival the LAX Marriott lounge and we’re looking forward to checking it out once it opens.
The 12:30 AM Walk-In & Shuttle Efficiency
As noted, we were walk-in guests. After calling the hotel, it took about 10 minutes for the shuttle to arrive to pick us up. Shuttle service is free and runs 24 hours a day, every 1/2 hour. When you’re stranded at JFK past midnight after tarmac delays, having a clean, warm shuttle pull up in ten minutes is a massive relief.
The contemporary front desk and registration lobby at the Residence Inn JFK.
The Front Desk Agents were very friendly, and after I provided my Bonvoy #, the agent perked up even more with fantastic status recognition. After quoting me the walk-in rate, she looked up and applied the best member rate to the 1 night reservation.
Open-plan lobby lounge seating with contemporary lighting and workstation tables.
24/7 lobby retail market stocked with beverages, snacks, and travel conveniences.
Clean elevator landing corridors on the ground level.
Quiet, carpeted guestroom corridors leading to corner suites on the 9th floor.
Room 915: 9th-Floor Corner King Studio
We ended up with a Corner, King Room on the 9th floor — Room 915. From our corner room we could see the Marriott, The Hilton, Hampton Inn and the Courtyard (they are all on the same block).
Corner King Studio 915, showcasing the king bed, corner daylight, and integrated workstation.
While this was the smallest Residence Inn room we’ve ever stayed in, it was very well designed with a full kitchen, king bed, small seating area, freestanding closet, desk and good sized bathroom. No complaints here with the size of the room in this brand new, airport hotel in Queens, NY.
Plush king mattress with reading sconces and integrated bedside charging outlets.
Compact seating area with armchair and modular freestanding wardrobe cabinet.
Dedicated work desk with task chair and wall-mounted HD television.
Looking back across the studio toward the kitchen and entry foyer.
Kitchenette & Extended-Stay Amenities
The kitchen makes intelligent use of vertical space, providing full-sized appliances without crowding the living area.
Kitchenette equipped with microwave, dual-burner cooktop, sink, and dishwasher.
Full-size stainless refrigerator and freezer ideal for extended layovers.
Quartz countertop prep area with drip coffee maker and glassware cabinet.

Bathroom Layout
The bathroom is surprisingly roomy for an urban airport build, featuring a glass walk-in shower and bright vanity illumination.
Spacious vanity with quartz surround, undermount sink, and backlit LED mirror.
Tile-lined walk-in shower with polished chrome wand and wall fixtures.
Plush towels and contemporary hardware throughout the bathroom.
Perimeter Views Across Airport Hotel Row
From Room 915 on the 9th floor, you have an expansive vantage over the immediate airport hotel cluster and JFK flight corridors.
Looking out at the shared campus courtyard and the adjacent full-service JFK Marriott nearing completion.
Sightlines across 135th Avenue capturing the neighboring Hilton and Courtyard properties.
Daylight view toward the JFK runway approaches across South Ozone Park.
Morning Hot Breakfast Buffet
Breakfast was available today from 7:30–9:45 AM and was a mix of the old and new Residence Inn Breakfast.
The buffet included:
- Scrambled eggs and scrambled egg whites
- Sausage patties
- Egg and cheese English muffins
- Oatmeal with a variety of toppings
- Breads, muffins, and packaged waffles
- Fresh whole fruit: apples, oranges, and bananas
I didn’t see any diced fruit, but we came down late and may have missed that. Everything was kept hot, clean, and well-replenished even toward the tail end of the service window.
The hot breakfast serving line featuring scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, and breakfast sandwiches.
Pastry displays, whole fruit baskets, and hot oatmeal bar.
The Field Verdict
This or the new Marriott is definitely someplace we would stay at again if the need arises. When flight disruptions hit JFK, bypassing a $500 surge cab ride home to crash in a spotless, soundproofed 9th-floor Corner King with a 10-minute shuttle response is the smartest move you can make.
