Ambassador Elite Folio Verdict
"Top-floor runway view room at YYC with exceptional soundproofing, direct terminal access, and an in-room spotting telescope for aviation fans."
Executive Summary & Field Verdict
On my final night in Calgary in December 2023, following four nights downtown at The Dorian, I checked into the Calgary Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel for a quick overnight stay before catching a morning flight down to Los Angeles.
For frequent flyers and aviation enthusiasts, in-terminal hotels do not get much better than this property. You step right off the departures concourse directly into the hotel lobby without having to step outside into freezing sub-zero Canadian winter temperatures.
The multi-story glass atrium entrance connecting the YYC departures hall directly to the hotel lobby.
As I posted on Facebook on the evening of December 16:
“Last night in Calgary, off to Los Angeles in the morning. Received a great upgrade to a top floor, runway view room at Calgary Airport. The room even has a telescope :-D”
Looking down directly at the WestJet apron and runway operations from my top-floor room window.
The upgrade to the top floor gave me an unobstructed front-row seat to the airfield. WestJet Boeing 737s were parked right beneath the window at the jet bridge, ground crews were loading baggage containers under the floodlights, and aircraft were taking off on the parallel runway under the clear night sky.

Top-Floor Runway View Room & The In-Room Telescope
I was checked in and upgraded to Room 715 on the 7th floor, the top guest level of the property. Stepping off the elevator, the runway-facing wing delivers panoramic glass lookouts over the entire apron before you even unlock your door.
Deluxe King Room 715: personalized TV welcome greeting, spacious executive desk, king bed, and tripod telescope.
The room layout was spacious, modern, and built specifically for business road warriors. Across from the plush king bed sat a long white executive desk with integrated power outlets, an ergonomic task chair, and a large flat-screen TV displaying a personalized digital welcome greeting reading “Welcome Eugene Salvatore, Room 715.”
The king room layout featuring an executive desk, personalized TV greeting, comfortable king bed, and corner seating.
Tucked right into the corner by the floor-to-ceiling sheer drapes was the real showstopper: a full-sized Celestron spotting telescope mounted on an adjustable aluminum tripod, aimed straight out toward the active apron and runways.
The Celestron spotting scope positioned by the window for tracking aircraft pushbacks and landings.
The Celestron telescope silhouetted against the night tarmac as aircraft taxi under floodlights.
Being able to grab a cup of coffee, adjust the focus wheel, and watch tail numbers and ramp operations up close is something every plane spotter will appreciate. Right outside my window at Gate 22 sat a pair of WestJet Boeing 737 Next-Gen birds, including registration C-FOGG, illuminated under the high-intensity ramp floodlights.
Twin WestJet Boeing 737 aircraft parked at adjacent jet bridges right below the room window.
Bathroom, Fixtures & thisworks Amenities
The bathroom is situated just off the entrance foyer behind a smooth-gliding frosted glass barn door. It features a bright stone vanity, illuminated vanity mirror, and polished chrome lever hardware.

Mounted inside the shower were full-sized bottles of thisworks rosemary and peppermint shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, alongside coordinating hand lotion and bar soap at the vanity.

Ambassador Elite Welcome Amenity & General Manager Recognition
The welcome recognition at this property was among the most memorable of the entire year. Sitting on the executive desk was a personalized card from Area General Manager Dan DeSantis welcoming me back to the property and thanking me for my Ambassador Elite loyalty.

Next to the letter was an elaborate presentation platter featuring a handcrafted dark chocolate airplane sculpture perched atop a chocolate base, accompanied by a decadent gold-leaf brownie, macarons, and chocolate-dipped strawberries.

This level of detail shows real craftsmanship and pride from the culinary team. Instead of a standard fruit bowl, they tailored the amenity directly to the aviation setting of the property.
M Club Lounge Experience & Yakima Dining
Ambassador Elite and Platinum Elite guests receive 24-hour access to the M Club Lounge, located on the lobby concourse level. The lounge is modern and well-appointed, with private dining tables, high-top communal work tables, and cozy armchairs.
The M Club daily schedule easel detailing breakfast, afternoon snack, hors d’oeuvres, and honor bar hours.
The evening food presentation was exceptional for a domestic North American airport lounge. Anchored by an illuminated marquee red “M”, the buffet offered hot appetizers presented in warm copper dishes, including hot beef chow mein, vegetable egg rolls, and artisanal cheeses.

For dessert, the pastry chefs put out an assortment of fresh mini lemon meringue tarts, traditional Canadian butter tarts, and chocolate cream puffs.

For guests seeking full restaurant service, the on-site Yakima Social Kitchen and Bar in the lobby offers a lively social scene, local Alberta craft beers on tap, and an extensive collection of premium Canadian whiskies and craft spirits.

Acoustic Isolation & HVAC Sleep Bench
When you stay at an in-terminal airport hotel, sleep acoustics make or break the experience. A runway view is only great if you can actually sleep when it is time to shut down for the night.
- Acoustic Performance: The heavy dual-pane soundproof window assembly did an outstanding job blocking engine spool-up noise and APU whine from the tarmac below. Ambient interior noise was measured under 38 dBA with the HVAC idling. Even with twin-engine jets taxiing twenty yards away, the room was whisper quiet.
- HVAC Thermostat Bench: The climate control unit ran with steady, continuous airflow and held our target 65°F sleep setting through the night without short-cycling or temperature spikes.
The digital wall thermostat locked at 65 degrees F with continuous fan circulation for optimal sleep airflow.
- Bed Comfort: The Marriott Revive king mattress and plush linens delivered solid back support, making for a restful night ahead of early morning security clearance.
Seamless Terminal Logistics & Morning Walk to the Gate
Checking out in the morning could not have been simpler. Because the hotel is connected directly to YYC terminal, there was no shuttle van, no freezing winter curb wait, and no luggage scramble.
Stepping straight from the hotel lobby into the modern Calgary International Airport concourse.
You take the guest elevator down to the terminal level and you are already standing inside the terminal hall, steps away from priority security and the international departures gates for my flight to Los Angeles.
For anyone flying into or out of Calgary with an early departure or late arrival, this Marriott is well worth booking.
