Ambassador Elite Folio Verdict
"A practical, well-executed airport property in Romulus, Michigan. Fast access to DTW terminals, reserved Elite parking right at the entrance, spacious King guest rooms with comfortable corner sectionals, and reliable on-site dining at Metropolis Bar & Grille."

Executive Summary & Field Verdict
When traveling through Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW), the hotel choice usually comes down to two categories: paying top dollar to stay inside the McNamara Terminal at the Westin, or picking an off-airport perimeter property along Wick Road or Merriman Road that gives you solid comfort without burning excessive corporate travel budgets.
On April 22, 2021, I checked into the Delta Hotels by Marriott Detroit Metro Airport at 31500 Wick Road in Romulus. Delta Hotels is Marriott’s no-nonsense, pragmatic full-service brand, designed specifically around what business travelers need: clean rooms, fast check-in, solid workspace, reliable hot water, and dependable food without useless fluff.
This property executed its mission cleanly. From dedicated Bonvoy Elite parking stalls right at the front entrance to an upgraded King room with an expansive corner sectional sofa and great workspace ergonomics, Delta Detroit Metro Airport delivered exactly what an overnight airport stay should.

Arrival, Elite Parking & Streamlined Check-In
Arriving by car off Interstate 94, the first detail that caught my eye was the parking layout. Right along the front walkway leading to the glass lobby entrance, the hotel clearly designated numbered stalls for Bonvoy status tiers: separate signs for Platinum Elite, Gold Elite, and Silver Elite.

Having a guaranteed parking spot ten steps from the front doors when arriving tired from travel is a small touch, but it demonstrates genuine property-level respect for frequent guests.
At the front desk, check-in was wrapped up in under two minutes. General Manager Fadi Achour had prepared a personalized welcome envelope waiting on the desk, alongside chilled Absopure bottled waters and a bag of Rold Gold pretzels.

The welcome note emphasized Delta’s brand mantra: “Pragmatic, Efficient and Seamless.” That tone carried throughout the entire property.

Upstairs on the fourth floor, Room 481 had its safety seal intact across the door jamb, confirming sanitization before guest entry.

Room 481 Layout & Living Space
Room 481 sits at the end of the south wing corridor, insulated from elevator bank foot traffic.

Entering the room, the layout opens into a spacious King floor plan with gray-and-blue striated carpeting, warm neutral wall tones, and generous natural daylight from the exterior window overlooking the quiet treeline behind the property.

The focal point of the room is the plush King bed, flanked by dark walnut nightstands with integrated power outlets and reading sconces. Mattress support was firm and level with clean white linens, delivering an unbroken night of sleep bench-tested at our required 64°F climate setting.

Beside the window, the property installed a deep royal blue velvet corner sectional sofa with matching throw pillows and a matching upholstered ottoman. Having a comfortable couch to stretch out and review emails on an iPad instead of being forced to sit on the bed is a huge upgrade for an airport hotel room.

Executive Workstation & Connectivity
For travelers needing to close out client deliverables or hold video conferences between flights, the desk setup in Room 481 is solid.

- Desk Surface: An expansive white laminate desk with heavy brushed steel legs, offering ample room for dual laptops, mousepad, and reference files.
- Seating Ergonomics: Mid-back rolling office chair with swivel action and height adjustment.
- Lighting & Power: A dedicated modern task lamp with integrated base power outlets, plus additional wall receptacles within reach.
- Connectivity: High-speed internet connectivity was steady throughout the evening; speed test not recorded.
Bathroom & Paul Mitchell Amenities
The bathroom utilizes a contemporary sliding pocket door with heavy stainless-steel bar pulls that save interior space while sliding silently on overhead rollers.

The vanity features a solid white composite countertop with a deep undermount sink, contemporary single-lever chrome faucet, and a large backlit perimeter LED mirror that provides clean, shadow-free illumination.
Under the vanity sits an open slatted storage shelf stocked with plush white bath towels, hand towels, and a wrapped hairdryer.

Delta Hotels standardized its bath amenity program with Paul Mitchell products:
- Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Shampoo: Super rich moisturizing wash with clean hawaiian ginger fragrance.
- Paul Mitchell The Detangler: Lightweight leave-in smoothing conditioner.
- Lemon Sage Body Lotion: Refreshing citrus tea moisturizer on the glass shelf.

The shower is a walk-in enclosure with large-format warm porcelain wall tile, polished chrome handheld shower wand, and sliding glass bypass door. Water pressure was robust, reaching 108°F hot water delivery in under 30 seconds.

During my physical condition audit, I noted a tiny surface chip on the front edge of the composite vanity lip (documented above). The surface remained clean and sealed with no structural degradation.
On-Site Dining: Metropolis Bar & Grille
Airport hotels often force you to rely on greasy fast food delivery. Delta Detroit Metro features a full on-site restaurant and lounge: Metropolis Bar & Grille.

Evening Dinner & Bar Service
The restaurant serves daily from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The dinner specials included:
- 20oz Bone-In Ribeye: Served with sautéed mushrooms, onions, garlic red skin mash, and seasoned broccoli ($35).
- Grilled Salmon Alfredo: Marinated grilled salmon over garlic broccoli linguine ($27).
- Lemon Butter Salmon: Pan-seared salmon with lemon butter cream sauce, sautéed spinach, and rice pilaf ($25).
At the bar, I ordered cold Stella Artois drafts to wind down the evening, served with fast and friendly bar service.

Back in the room, I checked the inside of the electric water kettle, which was completely clean of mineral scale.
Breakfast Service
The following morning, Metropolis opened for hot plated breakfast. I ordered the full American Breakfast: two eggs scrambled soft, crisp bacon strips, seasoned breakfast potatoes, and toasted white bread with hot tea and fresh apple juice. Service was prompt, taking less than 15 minutes from order to table, which is critical when catching morning flights at DTW.
Airport Shuttle & Transportation Logistics
For airport access, Delta Detroit operates its own dedicated fleet of high-roof passenger shuttle vans.

The vans are wrapped in Delta’s signature navy and white livery with the phone number (734) 721-3315 clearly displayed. Transit time from the hotel’s covered porte-cochère to both the McNamara Terminal (Delta Air Lines hub) and Evans Terminal (formerly North Terminal) runs approximately 7 to 10 minutes depending on airport loop traffic.
Field Notes & Verdict
- Property Rating: 9.1 / 10
- Sleep Quality: Excellent. The window blackout roller shades sealed tightly against light leakage along the sill tracks, and exterior noise from Wick Road was non-existent in the south wing.
- Loyalty Recognition: Genuine and proactive. Reserved parking spaces, personal GM greeting, and quick folio reconciliation.
- Bottom Line: If you need a reliable, comfortable, and cost-effective stay near Detroit Metro Airport, Delta Hotels Detroit Metro Airport is an outstanding perimeter choice that delivers genuine quality without unnecessary pretense.
