Ambassador Elite Folio Verdict
"A magnificent 1900 Romanesque train terminal converted into a luxury boutique hotel. Scoring a complimentary Ambassador Elite Master Suite upgrade made this the perfect final work stay of 2024."
This was my last travel night for work in 2024, and what a way to wrap up the year. I flew into Nashville after an early morning stop at the Delta Sky Club at LAX, heading east to close out the business season.
Marriott really treated me well across the final eight nights of this run, handing me fantastic suite upgrades along the way. But arriving at The Union Station Hotel Nashville and finding out they had upgraded me to a complimentary Master Suite was an absolute highlight.
Here is what I posted to Facebook on December 16, 2024 from the property:
“Last travel night for work this year. Sure wish Maureen Salvatore joined me on this trip, Marriott really treated me well with suite upgrades the last 8 nights. This Master Suite that I received as a complimentary upgrade, at the Union Station Hotel Nashville, is fantastic!”
Walking into this property never gets old. If you appreciate historic American architecture, this place is legendary. It originally opened back in 1900 as the passenger terminal for the Louisville and Nashville (L&N) Railroad. When you step inside the front doors, you are standing inside the grand passenger hall beneath a 65-foot barrel-vaulted ceiling with original stained glass and massive crystal chandeliers.

The Master Suite Upgrade
Getting upgraded to a Master Suite as a complimentary Ambassador perk on a two-night stay during the busy holiday season is why loyalty still counts. The suite is enormous, laid out with high ceilings, crisp wainscoting on the walls, and gorgeous light oak herringbone hardwood floors throughout.
The living room had more than enough space to stretch out, set up my laptop, and take calls. It came furnished with a tailored corner sectional sofa, mid-century lounge chair, low coffee table, and a dedicated vanity desk tucked under an architectural arch with a round vanity mirror.

Double white sliding barn doors separate the living room from the master bedroom, which lets you shut off the work zone completely when it is time to get some rest.
The master bedroom featuring a king bed with fluted headboard, brass ring chandelier, marble cafe table, and heavy drapery framing the historic arched stone windows.
Another angle of the master bedroom showing the curved fabric lounge sofa, marble bistro table, and work desk positioned right next to the arched windows overlooking Broadway.
The daytime window vista from the Master Suite looking north across the Broadway bridge and the historic rail corridor toward new Nashville Yards high-rises.
The HVAC maintained our target 64°F sleep bench smoothly and quietly throughout both nights. With the solid masonry exterior walls and heavy window insulation, street noise from Broadway was virtually non-existent up in the suite.
The Holiday Lobby Bar: A Very Merry Bar Car
Downstairs in the grand hall, the hotel leaned heavily into the Christmas season. The main lobby bar was branded as “A Very Merry Bar Car”, centered around a glowing illuminated tree sign stacked on top of hundreds of bourbon, whiskey, and liqueur bottles.

The sparkling holiday ornament archway and snow-flocked Christmas trees framing the entrance into the bar and lounge seating area.
After getting settled upstairs, I came down to grab dinner at the bar counter. You cannot go wrong with a classic burger, and ERGO put together a solid one: thick beef patty cooked just right with melted cheese on a toasted sesame brioche bun, crisp fries served in a wire basket, and an ice-cold draft beer. Simple, hearty, and well executed after a long day in the air.

Architectural Details and Nashville Character
Every corner of Union Station reflects its railroad heritage mixed with distinct Nashville art. In one of the lobby corridors, they have an incredible full-size electric guitar sculpture built entirely out of welded industrial metal: gears, sprockets, motorcycle chains, wrenches, and vintage Tennessee license plates.
A full-size custom guitar sculpture welded from repurposed industrial machinery, gears, wrenches, and Tennessee license plates, flanked by red poinsettias in the hotel lobby corridor.
Walking up between levels, the original multi-flight wooden grand staircase remains intact, spiraling up with rich dark balusters and custom plaid carpet runners that look straight out of the golden age of train travel.
Looking down through the center well of the historic multi-story open staircase, showing the dark wood handrails, turned spindles, and plaid carpeting.
Outside along the sidewalk on Broadway, the city even installed heavy padlock-shaped concrete and steel bike racks, adding a nice touch of street-level urban design right in front of the hotel entrance.

At night, the exterior takes on a completely different personality. The floodlights hit the rough-hewn stone facade, highlighting the clock tower and arched balconies against the dark winter sky.

The Bottom Line
The Union Station Nashville Yards is one of the most character-rich properties in the entire Marriott Autograph Collection. For business travelers or road warriors closing out a heavy travel schedule, having this level of space, quiet comfort, and history makes all the difference.
My only regret on this trip was that Maureen was not there with me to enjoy the suite and the holiday bar car. But between the complimentary Master Suite upgrade, the historic architecture, and the smooth folio credit, it was the ideal way to put the cap on my 2024 work travel.
