Flying out of Bradley International Airport (BDL) to Minneapolis–Saint Paul (MSP) today, I stopped into the Escape Lounge before boarding. For those of us based in Connecticut, having an Escape Lounge right inside the main terminal is a really nice American Express Platinum Card perk.
The Escape Lounge entrance at Bradley International Airport (BDL): Open daily 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM with complimentary access for American Express Platinum, Business Platinum, Corporate Platinum, and Delta SkyMiles Reserve cardholders.
The lounge has been open for a few years now and went through a remodel fairly recently. For travelers flying out of Bradley, it remains a quiet, comfortable respite to get some work done and grab a real meal before heading to the gate.
Remodeled Layout & Reorganized Seating
If you visited the BDL Escape Lounge back when it first opened and haven’t been in recently, the post-remodel floorplan makes a lot more sense operationally:
Inside the remodeled Escape Lounge at Bradley International Airport (BDL): Wood-slat partition screening the check-in desk and flight departure board, open dining tables, and the “Have an escape to remember” entry wall.
- Bar Relocated to the Back: They moved the bar to the back of the lounge, which makes total sense for traffic flow and keeps congestion out of the front entrance corridor.
- Reorganized Open Seating: The main floor has a clean, open layout with reorganized table and lounge seating separated from the check-in podium by warm wood-slat dividers.
- Updated Food Service Area: Instead of a single bottlenecked counter, the remodeled food service zone features a central aisle with counters on either side, making it much easier for guests to grab food and drinks without waiting in a single line.
Capacity Reality Check: The “Join Our Virtual Line” Stanchion
As a smaller regional club, the BDL Escape Lounge can hit capacity issues when the terminal is busy. Case in point: right as I was packing up to walk out to my gate this afternoon, the lounge hit full capacity and the staff placed the “Join our virtual line” QR pedestal directly in front of the sliding glass entrance doors:
Right on cue as I headed out to board: the “Join our virtual line — Uh-oh, we’re all booked right now” QR pedestal went up at the entrance (noting priority access for Amex Centurion cardholders).
When the sign goes out, incoming guests scan the QR code to join the digital waitlist and receive a notification as soon as a seat opens up.
Food & Beverage: Consistently Better Than “Average”
One thing I have always appreciated about the BDL Escape Lounge is that the food here has always been much better than “average” domestic club fare—and today’s selections were no exception:
The beverage counter along the teal subway-tile wall: Bunn commercial drip coffee brewer, cold iced tea and lemonade dispensers, and the specialty espresso and coffee machine at the far end.
- Hot Entrees & Sides: Three hot entrees with sides, plus hot soup.
- Cold Spread & Salads: A solid variety of cold plates, fresh salads, and dedicated vegan options.
- Bakery & Sweets: Muffins, cookies, and other bite-sized sweets.
- Coffee & Cold Beverage Station: Along the teal-tiled beverage counter, you have traditional Bunn drip coffee, a touchscreen machine for specialty espresso drinks, and cold iced tea and lemonade dispensers.
Little Treats at the Desk: A New Dragon for the Laptop
Sometimes the team here has fun little treats out for guests, too—and today they had stickers to give away. Who doesn’t like stickers?
My Intel Evo laptop lid on the table at the BDL Escape Lounge—now sporting the new light-blue dragon sticker in the lower-right corner alongside my TDX Tech, NASCAR San Diego Weekend, 2024 Playoffs, and Desert Botanical Garden stickers.
I picked up a new curled blue dragon sticker and added it right to the bottom-right corner of my laptop lid next to my NASCAR Playoffs and Aloha stickers:

Stepping Out to the Concourse
Stepping out of the lounge puts you right at the top of the East Concourse by Gates 1 and 2 and the Two Roads Tap Room—just a quick walk down the concourse to board for Minneapolis:
